There is no denying the fact that there is and has been income inequality for many years and that income inequality is continuously on the rise! One item that has been a hot topic of debate in many recent elections is the fact that when talking about income inequality one of the major issues is that the upper 1% of citizens are the ones that’s income is so far ahead of the rest.
A few statistics that need to be known is that in America the upper 1% of the population is taking in almost 25 percent of the nations income. Another statistic that needs to be known is that the upper 1% is the holders of 40 percent of the nations wealth! These statistics wouldn’t be so staggering if this is how they have been for a long time but it is in fact true that the wealthier are just getting more wealthy.
Knowing that the upper 1% of the population has seen their amount of income increase and share of the nations wealth increase there needs to be talk about how this is major problem. This is a major problem because people in the middle class have actually seen these numbers drop for themselves, causing an even bigger income inequality problem!
Within the past 25 years this problem has only become increasingly worse. It is within this 25 ear period that the upper 1% of the population has seen their income increase by 13% and their share of the wealth has increased by 7%. Knowing these statistics I think something needs to be done in order to make sure that the playing field is staying even. I am not saying that we need to just decrease the upper 1% pay or tax them more because of their success. I say the best, most combative way to tackle this problem would be to educate the lower and middle class people so that they understand where the world has been heading for the past 25 years before they get left behind.
